The IATRC 2007 annual meeting will be held on January 7-9 at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, DC. The first day of the meeting is the theme day. This year’s theme is “Labor Markets in a Global Economy,” which has been organized by Philip Martin of UC Davis and Linda Young of Montana State University. It will feature papers on the economic effects of migration on farm/food industry wages and employment, trade, poverty reduction and economic growth. Jung Sup Choi, President of the Korea Rural Economic Institute, will be our theme day luncheon speaker. A link to the draft agenda for the theme day can be found on the top of this page.
On the morning of the second day, January 8th, a Trade Policy Round Table will include sessions on two topics: “The US Farm Bill: Implications for Trade and Trade Policy Reform” and “Agriculture in the Doha Development Round”. The Round Table will conclude with a luncheon where Fred Bergsten, director of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, will be the featured speaker. Donna Roberts (ERS), David Blandford (Penn State) and Tim Josling (Standford) are organizing the Round Table.
The twelve contributed paper sessions are being organized by Ian Sheldon of The Ohio State University. This part of the program features sessions on biofuels policy and trade, multilateral trade issues, standards and trade, and a session organized by the Canadian Agricultural Trade Policy Research Network (CATPRN).
